Working with and on the land

Since 2023, our valley has been a place of learning, trial, and occasional stubbornness. Not all ideas work, progress takes time, and compromises — whether ecological or marital — are sometimes harder to reach than expected. Living close to water has also meant learning quickly that it is not only a gift, but a responsibility — requiring attention, readiness, and a different way of planning in response to the realities of the recent floods.

Still, we consider it a privilege to experiment, to build through experience, and to gradually develop our own way of restoring and working with the land.

The projects below reflect what we’ve completed so far — from post-flood recovery to building essential infrastructure and working with water, soil, and natural materials. All of this has been made possible through shared commitment, persistence, the help of the community, occasional tears, and a sense of humour along the way.

Much of this has been designed and built directly on site, using local materials and knowledge wherever possible.
